What I Believe

The athletes who reach their goals aren't always the most talented. They're the most consistent — showing up, doing the work, trusting the process over time. That's the foundation Earned Ground Coaching is built on.

A USA Triathlon Associate Certified Coach with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and Sports Medicine, Erik brings academic grounding in exercise science alongside genuine competitive experience across every triathlon distance — sprint through full Ironman.

Before finding his home in endurance sport, Erik competed across baseball, basketball, swimming and diving, and distance running from 5K through marathon. He has been a triathlete since 2010, racing across all distances. In 2021 and 2022 he provided open-water technique guidance and structured swim programming to a Pacific Northwest triathlon club.

"The only results that last are the ones you earned. Training should be hard enough to drive adaptation, intelligent enough to prevent injury, and honest enough to build real, lasting confidence."

The Approach

How I Coach

Before a single workout gets written, there's one question that matters most: why does this goal matter to you? Not the race on the calendar — the reason underneath it. That answer becomes the anchor for everything that follows: the plan, the hard conversations, and the days when motivation is gone and the work still has to get done.

From there, every plan is built on a principle that doesn't change: consistency is what drives improvement, and consistency depends on a body that isn't constantly breaking down. That belief shapes every decision about training load, progression, and recovery. The goal is never to do more for its own sake — it's to do exactly enough to create adaptation without breaking down what took weeks to build.

Progress shows up in efficiency long before it shows up on a results sheet — cadence, sustainable power, the ability to hold the same effort for longer. Those are the signals we build toward together, session by session, until race day simply confirms the work that was already done.
